DOSSENA WILL MOVE

Former Liverpool defender Andrea Dossena is likely to leave Palermo for the start of the new season after being deemed surplus by the new sporting director at the club, Nicola Amoruso. The Italian international has been at Palermo only for a few months, but it looks like the club will be entertaining bids from other clubs in order to sell the player before the transfer window closes in the first week of September. Dossena was signed from Napoli only in January, but due to the relegation of the club into the Italian second division, he is likely to be sold in order to balance the books.

Dossena is one of the highest earning players in the squad, which will be unsustainable for the club due to the lower revenues from the second division. Amoruso has said that the main priority of the club is to return to the top flight. They are of the opinion that they need a different kind of squad in order to rebuild from scratch. The Italian international, who has made 10 appearances for the national team, has played for the likes of Liverpool and Udinese in the past. Amoruso has also revealed that midfielder Josip Ilicic is likely to be sold as well.

Ilicic is valued close to £ 15 million by his club.

“We need to quickly return to the top flight and we want to do that with Gennaro Gattuso as the new Coach. We need to build an important squad for him, but Dossena certainly does not feature in our plans for the Palermo of next season. We have a lot of requests for him [Ilicic] from Italian and European sides. Napoli are one of them, but they are not the only team who have their eyes on him,” said Amoruso, who played for Juventus.
