DOSSENA HEADS TO SUNDERLAND

Former Liverpool defender Andrea Dossena has returned to the English Premier league after a move to Sunderland on the final day of the transfer window. After sealing his move from Napoli, the defender has said that he is very happy to have returned to the Premier league. Dossena was previously thought to be close to a move to Torino, but the more fell through because the player failed to pass a medical. He had apparently suffered a thigh injury during the time of the medical. This Sunderland move will unite him with his compatriot Paolo Di Canio, who is in charge of the club.

After completing the move, Dossena said that he is of course injured at the moment and that he would be targeting a return to full fitness in the next few weeks. He has praised the Premier league by saying that it is one of the most watched leagues in the world and rightly so. Sunderland have been on poor run of form and they will be hoping that the new signings bring the difference. Di Canio has made numerous changes to the Sunderland squad he inherited from Martin O’Neill. Dossena has become the 14th player to come to the Stadium of light.

“I am pleased to return to the Premier League – it’s the most-watched league in the world and the atmosphere is nice and warm. My injury will last a fortnight, so I will soon be available. Torino? I have no regrets, they needed a player who was ready to play straight away,” Dossena told Radio Marte. Sunderland are currently top bottom of the Premier league table after making a very poor start to the season. Pressure will increase for manager Di Canio if results do not improve even after the arrival of such quality players like Dossena.
