Dossena on Liverpool

Former Liverpool defender Andrea Dossena believes that Liverpool can win the title this season if they managed to be consistent. He said that Jurgen Klopp has built a team that can challenge Manchester City for the title and that the players should stand behind him.

He said that it has been a long time since Liverpool had a team that can win the Premier League and he feels that the current one can help them achieve that.

CAN LIVERPOOL SHOCK MADRID IN KIEV?

Ahead of the epic clash between Real Madrid and Liverpool in Kiev on May 26, we look at a few other times the European heavyweights have clashed on and off the field.

Both sides are among the most successful sides in European continental football history. They have 15 European cups between team and 50 league titles. Their rivalry in Europe dates back to the 1980s when they met at Parc des Princes. After winning the 1977 and 1978 titles, Liverpool sought to win another in 1981 against Madrid. Madrid were yet to win in over a decade so they were desperate. Well, Alan Kennedy scored eight minutes from time to ensure Liverpool were crowned champs for the third time.

Poyet Searching For Internal Leak

Sunderland’s Gus Poyet is on a journey of finding out the sources of an internal leak inside the club after news started being spread around concerning their interest in Lille’s Salomon Kalou.

Gus Poyet told the media: ‘’I’m going to have to do research on this football club and who is leaking information every week. It cannot always be the agent or the player. There’s too much information coming out and I don’t like it. I’m not going to comment. A few agents OK, you can blame them, but there is too much information coming out and I don’t like it. I am not going to comment on any players, sorry.”

The manager of Sunderland is eager on adding attacking players to the squad and they were having meetings with a series of players which included Salomon Kalou but now Gus Poyet is furious after finding out that all the hidden information concerning his plans was leaked to the public.

The appointment of Gus Poyet as the head coach of Sunderland has given the club impeccable results as the Uruguayan manager pushed Sunderland to the Premier League after a successful season in the Championship as well as managing to take them into the finals of the 2013-14 Capital One Cup.

Sunderland has lifted the FA Cup and the Charity Shield but the League Cup is a piece of silverware that they have not managed to add but Gus Poyet wants to make that happen and the Uruguayan tactician is well on his way on achieving it after claiming a 3-0 triumph over Birmingham City.

Goals from Jordi Gomez, Adam Johnson and Connor Wickham in the 2nd half of the match were enough for Sunderland to take the victory and enter the third round of the Capital One Cup.

Poyet Still Searching For More Players

Sunderland’s Gus Poyet is in the transfer market searching around for potential arrivals to the Stadium of Light as the club has already been successful in signing the likes of: Costel Pantilimon, Billy Jones and Jordi Gomez, the progress of the manager is showing but Gus Poyet still has a few things that he wants to accomplish before the summer transfer window concludes.

Fabio Borini and Ashley Williams are targets that Poyet has already launched offers but both of them were denied as Liverpool will not let Borini leave Anfield Road for €10 million which was the offer of Poyet.

Gus Poyet is hoping that the price tag of Liverpool’s Fabio Borini will drop considerably after Liverpool managed on signing Adam Lallana from Southampton and Lallana plays in a similar position to Borini.

Kurt Zouma and Jack Rodwell are players in the wish-list of Poyet but instead of signing them on permanent deals which would be close to impossible, the manager of Sunderland is expecting somehow to sign both of them on loan deals.

Zouma is a 19 year old centre-half who has already been regarded to have outstanding potential and becoming one of the best defenders in the world, Jose Mourinho secured his services from Saint-Etienne with a price tag of €12 million and if Poyet can indeed sign the French defender, it would provide Sunderland with defensive pace as well as build competition for Wes Brown and John O’Shea in the defence of the squad.

Jack Rodwell on the other hand has struggled trying to find a place in the starting lineup of Manchester City’s Manuel Pellegrini as the young midfielder had to settle with only being able to make 5 league appearances and his lack of playing time might make him want to leave the Etihad Stadium but Poyet will face competition trying to sign Jack Rodwell as Everton and West Bromwich Albion are also interested in signing the English midfielder.

NO DISTRACTIONS

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet has said that he does not see the FA Cup as a distraction for his club, but rather as a blessing in disguise. Sunderland will be hosting lower league Kidderminster Town at the Stadium of Light, which is a fixture that they are expected to comfortably win. However, the last few weeks have been very hectic for the manager in terms of the schedule. He says that the match against Kidderminster provides a great opportunity to rest some of the players and give those who have not taken part much in the campaign.

Sunderland will be coming on the back of a morale boosting 2-1 win over Manchester United on penalties. This Capital One Cup win has given them the chance to play in the final of the competition at Wembley. They will face Manchester City in this final, but it seems that Sunderland are also planning on reaching the FA Cup final as well. Even though Poyet has said that he will be using reserve players, he says that the desire to win has not diminished amongst the squad.

After two wins over Salisbury and Peterborough United, Kidderminster were beaten by Dartford 2-1 in the previous match. They will be hoping for a better performance and a return to winning ways in the match against Sunderland.

“The cup win over Manchester United was amazing. But the game against Kidderminster shows how fast things are coming around – Wednesday: Man United, Saturday: Kidderminster. Personally, I think it’s a good thing to have a cup game now. I would have been a bit more worried had we had a league game this weekend. It was such a high for the players on Wednesday and there has not been much rest for the players, so we could easily have been caught out,” said Poyet, who will be without Dossena for this match.
